வீறெய்தி மாண்ட தரண்.
உரை:
போர் முனையில் பகைவரை வீழ்த்துமளவுக்கு உள்ளே இருந்து கொண்டே தாக்குதல் நடத்தும் வண்ணம் தனிச்சிறப்புப் பெற்றுத் திகழ்வதே அரண் ஆகும்.
Translation:
At outset of the strife a fort should foes dismay;
And greatness gain by deeds in every glorious day.
Explanation:
A fort is that which derives excellence from the stratagems made (by its inmates) to defeat their enemies in the battlefield.
